Privacy Policy

How TechLegion Switzerland collects, uses and protects your personal data.

Last updated: 16 May 2026 — Effective immediately.

This Privacy Policy describes how TechLegion Switzerland ("TechLegion", "we", "us") collects, processes and protects personal data when you visit techlegion.ch, sign up for our newsletter, become a member, register for an event, or otherwise interact with us. We are committed to compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP / nFADP).

1. Who we are (data controller)

TechLegion Switzerland is a non-profit association (Verein) registered in Zug, Switzerland. For any privacy-related question please contact us at community@techlegion.ch.

2. What data we collect

We only collect personal data that we need for a clearly defined purpose. Depending on how you interact with us, this can include:

  • Identification & contact data — first name, last name, date of birth, gender, nationality, email, phone, address.
  • Membership data — application form responses, consents, professional information, membership status, fee payment status.
  • Event data — registrations, attendance, dietary or accessibility preferences you choose to share.
  • Newsletter data — email address, first/last name, opt-in timestamp, open/click events.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser, device type, pages visited, referrer (collected via privacy-friendly analytics where used).

3. Why we collect it (legal basis)

  • Performing the membership contract (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — to manage your membership in TechLegion Verein.
  • Consent (art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for newsletter signups and optional marketing.
  • Legal obligation (art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) — to keep accounting and tax records under Swiss law.
  • Legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — to secure our website, prevent fraud and improve our services.

4. Newsletter

Our newsletter uses double opt-in. You will receive a confirmation email to verify your subscription. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email or by writing to community@techlegion.ch.

5. Payment processing

The CHF 100 annual membership fee is processed by third-party Swiss payment providers (Stripe, TWINT, Payrexx). We do not store your card or bank details. Payment providers process payment data under their own privacy policies and applicable financial regulations.

6. Event registration data

When you register for an event we collect the information needed to admit you, communicate logistics, and meet partner or venue requirements (for example, name and email for hackathons run with NASA Space Apps Challenge). We delete event data once it is no longer required, unless retention is mandated by law.

7. Cookies

The TechLegion website uses only strictly necessary cookies by default. We may embed third-party services (such as Google Calendar) that set their own cookies. Where consent is required, we will request it via a cookie banner.

8. Sharing your data

We do not sell your personal data. We only share it with service providers strictly necessary for our operations (hosting, payments, email delivery, calendar embedding), and with authorities where legally required.

9. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by Swiss law (e.g. 10 years for accounting records).

10. Your rights

Under GDPR and revFADP you have the right to access, rectify, delete, restrict, port and object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, please email community@techlegion.ch. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or your local EU supervisory authority.

11. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data — including HTTPS, access controls, and minimization of data we store.

12. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via our website or by email if you are a member or newsletter subscriber.

Reviewer note: This privacy policy is a strong baseline but should be reviewed by a Swiss lawyer or data-protection officer before going live, especially the payment, retention and breach-notification sections.
